MIPT Announces National Campus Security Summit
University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) President W. Roger Webb has announced to a U.S. Senate Committee that UCO will host a National Campus Security Summit on May 30.
University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) President W. Roger Webb has announced to a U.S. Senate Committee that UCO, along with the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT), the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), will host a National Campus Security Summit.
The Summit will be held on May 30, 2007 on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.
Webb, who is also a member of the Board of Directors for MIPT, made the announcement in Washington D.C. before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs during his testimony regarding "Security on America’s College Campuses".
"For years, those of us in the Heartland naively thought we were immune to mass violence and acts of terrorism," Webb told the committee.
"So today the spotlight is shining squarely on every college president and every senior campus administrator in this country," he stated.
Those involved in the planning of this national summit hope it will not only be of assistance to every campus that will be reviewing it’s crisis plan, but the summit will also serve as an open forum for discussion of new ideas and lessons learned.
