The Livingston County, Michigan, Sheriff is asking for assigned, take-home vehicles for deputies to increase the longevity of each vehicle while decreasing maintenance costs, WHMI reported.

Vehicles are currently shared by two deputies, and the change would allow the department to keep vehicles for six years instead of three. This would also reduce employee contact, which is important during the pandemic. It would take a few years to build up the fleet, but wouldn’t cost the county extra.
