Ford Recalls 20K P.I. Interceptor Vehicles

Ford Motor Co. recalled nearly 20,000 2013 model-year Police Interceptor sedan and Utility vehicles Tuesday, after receiving complaints about fuel tank leaks that pose a fire risk, the automaker told PoliceMag.com.

The automaker recalled 8,384 P.I. sedans and 11,517 P.I. Utility vehicles that were built at Ford's Chicago assembly plant. The recall affects sedans built between Aug. 31, 2011 and Jan. 10, 2013 and Utility vehicles built between Aug. 25, 2011 and Dec. 21, 2012.

In the affected vehicles, the fuel delivery module may develop a crack, allowing fuel to leak. Ford will replace the module at no charge.

"If they smell an odor of fuel or notice a fuel leak, call the dealer immediately," said Kelli Felker, Ford's safety spokesperson. "The most important thing is we are not aware of any fires, accidents or injuries as a result of this condition."

The automaker also issued the recall for the Explorer, Taurus, Flex, Fusion as well as the Lincoln MKS, MKT, and MKZ vehicles. The recall affects more than 390,000 vehicles in the U.S. and 465,000 worldwide, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
