A Broward (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy died Saturday as a result of injuries he sustained in an on-duty crash more than a week earlier, the agency announced.
Deputy Daniel Rivera, 32, was heading to the station at sunrise on Sept. 11, when his patrol vehicle left the roadway on Interstate 95 and struck a tree.
Deputy Rivera had served the agency since 2003. He began his law enforcement career as an auxiliary police officer with the NYPD at age 19. His mother is a captain with the NYPD Department of Corrections and his father is a warden with the same division. He leaves behind a 14-year-old son and a girlfriend.
"Our entire agency is feeling the loss of this young, brave deputy who was taken too soon from his family, friends and coworkers," Sheriff Scott Israel said. "I am praying for Deputy Rivera's family to find comfort and strength during this time."
LEHR has opened a 40,000-square-foot Defender Supply upfitting facility in Houston, Texas. It is expected to upfit thousands of public safety vehicles each year.
