A man has been arrested on a felony charge for submitting fake voter registration cards in Ohio. He is accused of using names such as Mary Poppins and Dick Tracy to fill out more than 100 such forms, all of which had similar-looking signatures.

Chad Staton, 22, was charged with false registration and was released without bond, pending arraignment.

“Staton was to be paid for each registration form that he could get citizens to fill out,” said Defiance County Sheriff David Westrick. “However, Staton himself filled out the registrations and returned them to the woman who hired him from Toledo.”

Police are also investigating allegations that Staton was paid for the registration forms with cocaine. Officers say they interviewed a Toledo woman who claimed she had paid Staton with cocaine for the registrations. Officers say they searched her home and found voter registration forms and drug paraphernalia.

The NAACP’s National Voter Fund submitted the fraudulent forms to elections officials. George Forbes, Cleveland chapter president of the NAACP, says the voter fund operates independently from his chapter.
