Subject Disarms UT Officer, Discharges Shot

A suspect took a gun from an Ogden (UT) Police officer during a struggle Sunday and used it to fire on other officers. The officers had responded to a domestic violence call at a gas station after the report of a man having punched a woman in the face.

The officers had responded to a domestic violence call at a gas station after the report of a man having punched a woman in the face, 2KUTV reports.

Officers found the suspect, Dana Lydell Smith, 29, in a nearby parking lot and attempted to stop him, police say. Police report during a struggle Smith was able to get his hands on an officer’s firearm and discharge it, however no officers were injured.

Smith is being held without bond and was booked on charges of disarming a police officer, a first-degree felony; and charges of assault on a peace officer; failure to stop at command of law enforcement; felony discharge of a firearm; and other charges.
