GA Officer Killed in Off-Duty Vehicle Accident

A 57-year-old Georgia police officer died Sunday from injuries sustained in an off-duty vehicle accident.

The Union City (GA) Police Department Monday announced the death of Officer Rodney Steed, who had served with the department since December 2017. He was assigned to the department’s Court Services Division, had previously retired from the United States military, and also had retired from the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office with 20 years of service.

“Officer Steed passing is a tough loss for our agency as his spirit and continual laughter remains an integral part of our daily lives serving and protecting the citizens and visitors of Union City,” says a police department statement posted online.
