Two Boston police officers were wounded and a suspect is dead after a barrage of gunfire erupted ending an hours-long standoff Tuesday afternoon in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood.

The officers suffered non-life-threatening wounds to their legs and were taken to Boston Medical Center, WCVB reports.

Since about 9 a.m. Tuesday, Boston police and SWAT teams were on Ferndale Street negotiating with a barricaded person who was believed to be armed.

Throughout the day, negotiators attempted unsuccessfully to get the suspect to surrender peacefully.

The suspect's stepmother told WCVB that she invited him to visit for a couple of hours but he stayed for 10 days and wanted keys to the house. She said when she asked him to leave at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, he pulled out a gun and threatened to kill her and his half-brother.
