A Camden County, Missouri, Sheriff’s K-9 died Sunday after he was hit by a vehicle while training with his handler near his home.
K-9 Shadow, a German Shepherd, “was a beloved member of our agency, a dedicated partner to Deputy Dylan Rice, and a loving member of the Rice family,” Sheriff Chris Edgar said in a press release.
Shadow joined the Camden County Sheriff’s Office in 2023 as a dual purpose K-9 trained in patrol (tracking, apprehension and handler protection) and narcotics detection, Sheriff Edgar said.
“Deputy Shadow was a friend to all our deputies and a loyal partner to Deputy Dylan Rice. Shadow was a valuable asset to our department and a true friend to our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dylan and his family and we ask for the public’s help in respecting their privacy during this difficult time,” the sheriff said.
