Lowell, MA, police officers rescued several people, including a baby who was dropped from the second floor to safety, from a fire Wednesday that claimed the life of a 77-year-old man.
Police officers were the first to arrive at the burning home.
Officer Walter Varey rushed into the building when he heard screaming from the second floor. Forced to crawl because of the suffocating smoke, Varey found a man, a woman and their child, WCVB reports.
Outside of the building, Officers Leang Chhor and Joshua Delisle saw a woman holding a baby in a second-floor window. They told her to drop the baby to them, which she did, and were able to catch the baby safely.
The woman then jumped from the window and was caught safely by Chhor and Officer Warren Greenhalgh.
