Nebraska Officer Fatally Shoots Dog Attacking Him

An officer with the Schuyler (NE) Police Department who came under attack by an out-of-control dog was forced to fatally shoot the animal during an incident on Monday night, police say.

An officer with the Schuyler Police Department who came under attack by an out-of-control dog was forced to fatally shoot the animal during an incident on Monday night, police say.

According to ABC News, police say the officer—whose name has not been released—had responded to calls of a dog loose in a neighborhood and was attempting to get the animal under control when it began biting him.  

The officer then opened fire, killing the dog, police say.

The officer was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of numerous puncture wounds suffered in the attack. He is expected to fully recover.
