A teenager in West Virginia recently sent a hand-written letter of thanks to the members of the Hopewell Police Department.

According to WWBT-TV, the letter said, "I'm 18 years old and was raised to believe police officers are here to protect me and I still whole-heartedly believe that no one deserves to endure what the officers of this country are experiencing."

The letter said also, "I would like to apologize on behalf of my generation and some of my fellow Americans."

Chief Kamran Afzal said that he plans to write back to the teenager and begin a friendship.
