Louisville Mayor Fires LMPD Chief Steve Conrad Amid Civil Unrest

After four consecutive nights of protests, rioting, and civil unrest, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer on Monday announced that LMPD Chief Steve Conrad has been fired.

After four consecutive nights of protests, rioting, and civil unrest, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer on Monday announced that LMPD Chief Steve Conrad has been fired.

According to WAVE-TV, LMPD and National Guard officers were called to disperse a large crowd that had gathered near a local restaurant. During that incident shots were reportedly fired at officers, who subsequently returned fire fatally shooting 53-year-old David McAtee, the owner of the restaurant where the crowd had gathered.

Mayor Fischer said a press conference that Conrad's termination is effective immediately.

Robert Schroeder will serve as interim police chief.
