An off-duty officer with the Rochester (NY) Police Department was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday evening as he drove to work.

According to NBC News, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office confirmed that 52-year-old Manuel Ortiz was the only occupant of a vehicle that left the roadway and plunged into a ravine.

Ortiz—a 22-year veteran of the department—was pronounced dead at the scene.
