An officer with the Scottish Police Federation died while on duty on Tuesday, the agency announced on Twitter.

Chief Superintendent Andrew Todd confirmed the duty death occurred while the officer was patrolling the Montrose area.

"The sympathies of everyone at Police Scotland are with the officer's family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time," Todd said in the Tweet. "There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
