Officers with the Mandan Police Department have welcomed a new two-year-old German Shepherd to its ranks, the agency said.

According to the Bismarck Tribune, Officer Scott Warzecha and K-9 Kupper graduated the Shallow Creek Kennels Law Enforcement K-9 program in August.

The dog was obtained in large part because of the generous donation of $12,000 from an area businessman Bob Kupper—thus the name of the dog—and an additional anonymous donation of $2,000.

K-9 Kupper is trained in tracking, apprehension, evidence searching, building searching and narcotics detection. The narcotics portion of his training focused on cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, and their derivatives.
