A captain with the Knoxville Police Department was conducting a briefing in June—that was reportedly captured on audio—during which he openly mocked anyone who wanted to become a school resource officer (SRO).

According to Knox News, Captain Tony Willis was reading department announcements when he said that three SRO positions needed to be filled.

He then reportedly said, "If you choose to submit a transfer request do not expect that to make it to the safety building."

Later in the briefing he then added, "If you know anybody who wants to go (be an) SRO, discourage that. Let them know that they should remain a real cop."
