The Fort Worth Police Department released body-camera footage of an incident last week in which an armed suspect opened fire on officers while reportedly holding a child as a human shield.

According to NBC News, officers had approached the third-floor apartment reportedly occupied by a gunman—identified by police as 19-year-old Markeyvion Devonte Cannon—in an effort to get the man to surrender.

When officers discovered that Cannon was using a child as a shield, they retreated out of the building and set up positions in the parking lot, where they came under continued fire.

While Cannon was training his attention on the parking lot, SWAT officers breached the apartment door, and engaged the suspect.

Cannon was fatally shot in the head.
