Massachusetts Officer Injured in Collision with Suspected Drunk Driver

An officer with the Dartmouth (MA) Police Department was injured on Sunday when his patrol vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver.

An officer with the Dartmouth (MA) Police Department was injured on Sunday when his patrol vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk driver.

The agency posted on Facebook, "While investigating an earlier crash on Route 6 near Connecticut Avenue, the cruiser that Officer Manny Demelo was sitting in was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by David Costa, 56, of New Bedford.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

The driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation.
