Detroit Man and Woman Charged in Shooting of Police Officer

A man and a woman have been charged in the shooting of a police officer earlier this month.

According to the Detroit News, Deantrae Corey Oneal and Breanna Washington—both 22 years old—face a litany of charges for the May 18 incident that left Officer Mario Rodriguez with wounds to his abdomen.

The incident took place following a traffic stop during which the driver—Oneal—reportedly backed up striking at least one officer, and then leaped from the vehicle and opened fire.

Washington was charged with being an accessory after the fact.

The charges against Oneal include home invasion, second degree, felon in possession, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting a police officer causing serious impairment, two counts of resisting a police officer causing injury, three counts of assault with intent to murder, and three counts of felony firearm.
