Officers with the Pittsburg (CA) Police Department can now display tattoos on duty as the chief of the department says the ban on visible tattoos had become outdated.

According to KTVU-TV, Police Chief Bruce Addington had conducted a poll on the department's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Nextdoor, and the results were that most citizens felt that tattoos don't have any impact on an officer's ability do their job.

The chief said on social media, "Many people have tattoos and why should officers cover them up when the rest of society can wear them and display them proudly?"

Many agencies are reversing similar policies as a means of making it easier to recruit new officers and lure lateral transfer employees.
