The Cambridge (MA) Police Department unveiled a new recruiting campaign on Wednesday which focuses efforts on connecting the agency with residents interested in joining the department.

According to the Cambridge Chronicle, the new efforts include launching a newly created Cambridge Police recruitment website, text-for-information, social media advertisements, other online marketing initiatives and the introduction of a new Cambridge Police Cadet Program.

"With the numbers of new applicants slowing and veteran officers eligible for retirement increasing each year, we realize that we need to embrace new strategies and technology to find qualified and compassionate individuals looking to enhance and keep our community safe," Police Commissioner Branville Bard said.

Cambridge PD is also introducing a new Cadet Program, which is expected to begin in late 2019.

The social media advertising will take place on Instagram and run through the final application date next week.
