A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized with injuries to his face, head, hip, and spine following a single-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon.

According to CBS News, 31-year-old Matthew Smyth was en route to a call when he crashed into a support beam.

Smyth's mother, Nancy, says he will not be paralyzed because of the accident.
