An officer with the Colorado Springs (CO) Police Department was critically wounded in an early morning gunfight, according to KDVR-TV.

Officer Cem Duzel was shot after responding to a shots-fired call and is in critical condition at an area hospital, according to the CSPD Facebook page.

Officers had responded to multiple reports of shots being fired. When they arrived at the scene, there was an exchange of gunfire, Colorado Springs police Chief Peter Carey said.

The suspect also was shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports. The name, age, and gender of the suspect were not released.
