A Griffin, Georgia, police officer was shot and killed early Saturday morning outside a Waffle House where he was working an extra-duty security job.

WSB-TV 2 is reporting three suspects are in custody after the shooting that happened at the restaurant at U.S. 19 around 2:30 a.m.

Police said 43-year-old Griffin Police Officer Kevin Jordan, a 4-year veteran of the force and father of seven, was shot and killed.

Police said a group of two men and a woman was asked to leave the restaurant. Jordan, who was working an off-duty security job in full uniform, was able to get them outside. At some point, the woman began fighting with Jordan, police said.

"As he was on the ground trying to cuff her, one of the males who was with her apparently brandished a firearm and shot (Jordan) three times in the back," said Griffin Police Officer Mike Richardson.

The officer's brother, a civilian, who had come to visit him, shot the man alleged to have shot the officer.
