A federal judge awarded a Lancaster couple $4 million Tuesday for injuries they suffered when two Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies shot them during a parolee search.

The deputies shot Angel Mendez, 32, 14 times and his wife Jennifer Mendez, 31, once in the back after entering a backyard shack where the couple lived on Oct. 1, 2010. Angel Mendez apparently pointed a BB rifle at deputies Christopher Conley and Jennifer Pederson.

The judge also ruled the couple's constitutional rights were violated because the deputies didn't have legal grounds to search the shack in the 18th Street West area of Lancaster, reports KPCC.
