The cost of searching for murder suspect Chris Dorner could total in the millions, as law enforcement agencies involved in the manhunt now tally the resources deployed to locate the fugitive ex-LAPD cop, reports the Los Angeles Daily News.

At the peak of the search, 125 officers from various agencies looked for Dorner in the Big Bear area. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department led that effort, while the Los Angeles Police Department focused primarily on protecting the officers and family members who were identified as potential Dorner targets. About 275 LAPD officers were assigned to protect 50 people.

Personnel from the Riverside and Irvine police departments investigated the deaths of people believed to be killed by Dorner. And the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and state Fish and Wildlife sent agents to participate in the search.

Additionally, two helicopters equipped with FLIR technology, which employs thermal imagery, were used to detect body heat. FBI crime lab and profiling resources were also used.
