A homeless former Crip gang leader helped a Dallas Police officer who was being assaulted, garnering praise from the agency.

Surveillance video shows Officer Billy Taylor backing away from Samuel Jackson, who quckly approached the officer. Jackson was allegedly under the influence of PCP.

Charles Alexander, 45, can be seen stepping off the curb and pulling Jackson away from the officer. Alexander then body slams Jackson to the ground, as back-up units arrive at the scene.
