San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi pleaded guilty to the lesser misdemeanor false imprisonment charge, ending his prosecution for a domestic dispute with his wife.

Mirkarimi's plea deal is fairly standard. It was unclear whether the false imprisonment charge was for allegedly grabbing and restraining his wife or for reportedly insisting she stay in the house afterward, reports the Silicon Valley Mercury News.

Mirkarimi still must abide by an order to "stay away" from his wife until his counseling is under way. The order that prohibits him from carrying a gun likely will remain in effect until then.
