Texas Deputy Shot in Face by Murder Suspect

“While contact was attempted to be made with someone at the residence, the suspect, identified as 38 year-old James Scott Grigory, opened fire and struck a a deputy twice, once in the face and once in the arm," the sheriff's office said.

A Leon County, Texas, Sheriff’s deputy was shot in the face Saturday (June 21, 2025) by a reportedly suicidal subject who is suspected of killing his parents.

The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook statement that the incident happened in Normangee when deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrived at the home.

“While contact was attempted to be made with someone at the residence, the suspect, identified as 38 year-old James Scott Grigory, opened fire and struck a Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy twice, once in the face and once in the arm,” the sheriff’s office said.

Additional law enforcement agencies responded to provide backup. The wounded deputy was given medical aid and was transported by helicopter to a hospital.

Texas DPS arrived on scene and found Grigory’s mother dead by apparent gunshot wounds. After making entry into the home, DPS SWAT discovered Grigory’s father also dead with apparent gunshot wounds. Grigory was later found dead in the residence with what is believed to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

The wounded deputy has not been identified. He is reportedly in stable condition.
