The Miami-Dade Police Department has announced that it will purchase Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 notebook computers.
Miami-Dade PD has been using Toughbooks in the field since 2002, and the new computers will replace and augment the existing models.
The agreement was signed with Panasonic partner and reseller Insight Public Sector. It calls for Insight to supply approximately 1,200 CF-29 Toughbooks, as well as docking, and systems integration services. The CF-29s purchased by Miami-Dade include embedded wide area wireless access on the Cingular EDGE network as well as integrated GPS.
βMiami-Dade Police Department understands that reliability and durability are essential in the mission-critical situations police officers find themselves in every day,β says Jan Ruderman, manager of Public Safety for Panasonic Computer Solutions Company. βWe are honored to be able to count MDPD among the thousands of police departments who depend on products and services from Panasonic.β
The Miami-Dade PD provides services for nearly 2 million people living in a 2,109-square-mile area. It fields 2,900 sworn officers backed up by 1,700 support personnel.
