More than 1,700 vehicles in the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) fleet have been equipped with Dell Latitude E6400 XFR rugged laptops and docking units.

The Latitude E6400 XFRs will allow officers to generate crash reports and other documents. In addition, officers can take their laptops into the station and use them on desktop docking stations. The systems are available with features that can help with officer safety issues. While in the field and on patrol, broadband and GPS connections can provide the officer's location, enabling dispatchers to quickly direct assistance if needed.

"We selected Dell after a year-long and demanding selection process looking at many machines from five manufacturers," says Col. John Czernis, Florida Highway Patrol director. "We had to be sure the systems we give our officers will stand up to the stress and strain of our demanding operating environment. The Dell solution meets our needs and will significantly enhance our mobile computing capability, a key component today in enabling our officers to fulfill our mission to provide highway safety and security through excellence in service, education and enforcement."

The Latitude E6400 XFR is designed for applications requiring rugged protection for the laptop, including military, police, first responders, and homeland security. It features Dell's exclusive Ballistic Armor Protection System featuring PR-481, which leverages a high-strength substance used for applications such as aircraft components, military equipment, and medical devices.

Dell says the Latitude E6400 XFR will easily integrate with the FHP's Dell systems helping to simplify the ongoing administration and management of the agency's IT environment from its existing rugged PCs and desktop computers through its servers and storage.
