Albany patrol officers will now be able to record encounters with suspects, following the department's equipping of the cars with in-car video systems, the North Country Gazette reports.
The department added Panasonic Toughbook systems to 47 of the vehicles. The systems record audio on a continuou 30-second loop and can be activated to record longer when the car's emergency lights are turned on or if the vehicle exceeds 55 mph.
The recordings are then uploaded via the city's wireless broadband network. The evidence is saved for 30 days.
