The NYPD has released video footage that shows a man leaving the scene in Times Square where an explosive device inside a Nissan Pathfinder failed to detonate.

The footage, which is shot from a vantage point inside a nearby restaurant, shows a slender, balding man removing his shirt near what appears to be a piece of luggage.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the man is moving in a "furtive manner," the New York Times reports.

A search is underway to locate the man for questioning.
