South Carolina lawmakers say they plan to remove red-light cameras recently added to Interstate 95 in Ridgeland County.

"We're absolutely shutting it down," state Sen. Larry Grooms, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, is quoted as saying in an Associated Press report.

The Ridgeland mayor and police deparment say the cameras are an effective tool and save lives.
