The Clare County (Mich.) Sheriff's Department quickly located a missing special-needs student with the help of their AppArrest mobile phone app.
The sheriff's department located the 18-year-old student shortly after the school filed a missing persons report. The student went missing after he became angry and walked off campus into a heavily wooded area. The sheriff's department sent out a push notification via the sheriff's department's customized mobile phone app.
Within 15 minutes of sending the push notification, the department received a phone call from a citizen who had seen the boy. Sheriff's deputies caught up to the boy and returned him safely.
The department has also caught over one dozen wanted criminals through their "most wanted category" on the app. Users receive instant updates on emergencies, Amber alerts, crime and more. They can also commend an officer, submit a tip, browse the Department of Justice's National Sex Offender Database, and view a crime map.
The Clare County mobile phone app, which was purchased with forfeiture money, is available on Apple and Android markets. Users can download it at no charge.
