Border Patrol Agent Shot, Killed in Southern Arizona
Agent Brian Terry, 40, was killed at about 11 p.m. near Peck Canyon, about 10 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border west of Rio Rico on the Interstate 19. Four suspects are in custody and one is being pursued, according to a press release from Customs and Border Protection.

LAPD Officer Killed By Roadside Bomb In Afghanistan
Officer Joshua Cullins had bounced back from a concussion suffered during the July 16 explosion of a roadside bomb. Fellow officers including Chief Charlie Beck recorded a video get-well greeting for Cullins that was posted to YouTube.

Suspect in Slaying of Utah Deputy Captured
Arizona’s Coconino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Erika Wittenmuth said Curley was taken into custody about 1 a.m. in the Lost Spring subdivision after a homeowner reported seeing a man with a rifle slung over his shoulder trying to get into his home about 12:20 a.m. In all, 17 police officers rushed to the scene and soon located Curley.

Chicago Officer Fatally Shot Leaving Police Building
While leaving a police building at about 3:45 p.m., the officer was shot in the head, while trying to stop a robbery attempt. The incident happened at 61st and Racine outside of the facility used by the department's targeted response and gang enforcement units.
