Authorities say Sgt. Cory Wride of the Utah County Sheriff's Office was ambushed about 1 p.m. as he stopped to check on a vehicle abandoned on the side of Highway 73 between Eagle Mountain and Cedar Fort.

Colo. Sgt. Killed on Motorcycle in Head-on Collision
A motorcycle officer with the Jefferson County (Colo.) Sheriff's Office was killed while on patrol Sunday at 10:05 a.m., after being struck by a car that crossed double yellow lines to illegally pass. Sgt. David Baldwin was a military veteran in the U.S. Air Force as well as a highly decorated 27-year veteran of the agency.

Video: 2 Okla. Officers, Suspect Killed in Vehicle Pursuit
The pursuit began around 9:40 Thursday morning when Undersheriff Beck tried to serve felony arrest warrants on Quentin Lee Johnson, 27, of Sentinel, Okla. Johnson, who was wanted on drug and weapons charges, fled in his pickup truck with Beck in hot pursuit.

2 Okla. Officers, Suspect Killed in Vehicle Pursuit
Two officers were killed during a lengthy high-speed pursuit in Western Oklahoma Thursday. Vehicles driven by Washita County Undersheriff Brian Beck, 39, and Burns Flat Police Officer Kristian Willhight, 36, crashed head-on in a rural intersection near Dill City. Mexico Protests Texas Execution of Cop Killer
Tamayo, 46, was condemned for the January 1994 murder of Houston police officer Guy Gaddis, 24 (pictured above). Tamayo, who had been imprisoned in California for aggravated robbery, shot the officer three times with a pistol hidden in his clothing as he was being taken to jail.
