Colo. Cops Defeat Holmes' 'Death Trap'

Police explosives personnel dismantled the sophisticated booby trap in James Holmes' Aurora, Colo., apartment Saturday that was likely meant to kill police officers.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters Saturday the booby trap would have probably killed the first person who entered the apartment's kill zone. "You think we're angry? We sure as hell are angry," Chief Oates said.

Police used a controlled explosion to eradicate the threat on Saturday.

Earlier that day, investigators discovered a raft of deadly materials inside the 800-square-foot apartment including devices that "include liquids and ammunition," a law enforcement official told the Los Angeles Times .

Police used a robot to take video inside the apartment that helped explosives experts identify the materials and devices inside, including 30 aerial shells, several improvised grenades, jars containing accelerants, black powder, and bullets.
