Ariz.-Neb. Cartel Trafficking Case Named Operation of the Year

The investigation and prosecution resulted in the dismantling of a large-scale marijuana trafficking enterprise bringing narcotics into Nebraska from Arizona. The criminal enterprise operated as a partnership between the South Family Bloods street gang and Sinaloa Cartel.

A drug trafficking operation that brought down a Mexican drug cartel's Nebraska distributor has been named the most outstanding case of 2012 by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Operation Blue Storm was selected as the National Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) top case earlier this week.

The investigation and prosecution resulted in the dismantling of a large-scale marijuana trafficking enterprise bringing narcotics into Nebraska from Arizona. The criminal enterprise operated as a partnership between the South Family Bloods street gang and Sinaloa Cartel.

The enterprise, which was run by Shannon Williams, transported and distributed nearly 16,000 pounds of marijuana with a street value of approximately $7.75 million.

The Nebraska case resulted in the indictment and conviction of 15 individuals and the seizure of $600,000 in property. It led to another investigation in Arizona targeting the Sinaloa Cartel suppliers that resulted in the indictment of 11 additional individuals.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the case included the Bellevue (Neb.) Police Department, Omaha (Neb.) Police Department, Peoria (Ariz.) Police Department, and the FBI.
