The Mansfield Police Department, in Texas, released body-worn and dashcam camera footage of when one of its officers saved the life of a choking motorist.

The department released a video of Officer Chad Stevens’ efforts to save the woman in a social media post.

“He was at the right place, at the right time,” the department said in the post.

The department said Stevens demonstrated quick thinking and life-saving actions Jan. 13 when he encountered a choking victim on Interstate Highway 20.

He was patrolling and noticed a white vehicle driving in the left lane with hazard lights on, indicating a potential emergency. Responding to the situation, he activated his emergency lights and pulled behind the vehicle.

"The flashers were on, she was swerving back and forth, speeding up and slowing down. So I could tell they were in some type of distress," Stevens told FOX4.

As he was putting his vehicle into park, Stevens saw the driver exiting her vehicle with evident signs of distress, holding her neck and coughing as if she was choking.

“Acting swiftly, Officer Stevens implemented the Heimlich Maneuver, successfully dislodging a piece of gum, causing the obstruction,” the department said.

According to police, the driver told the officer that another vehicle had entered her lane, causing her to breathe in quickly and choke on the gum.
