MI Deputy Wounded, Suspect Killed in Gunfight Following Pursuit

When deputies tried to take the suspect into custody, shots were exchanged, the suspect was killed, and a deputy was wounded, the sheriff’s office said.

A Muskegon County (MI) Sheriff’s deputy was wounded and a suspect was shot and killed in an incident near Ravenna Monday morning.

The incident began around 10:15 p.m. Sunday night when Muskegon Township Police and Muskegon Heights Police responded to a domestic dispute that involved shots fired inside a home, WWMT reports.

The suspect fled the scene.

He was found by law enforcement around 1 a.m. The suspect then led officers on a pursuit lasting over 30 minutes. Deputies, troopers and officers from four different departments were involved in the chase, which ended with the suspect crashing in a ditch.

When deputies tried to take the suspect into custody, shots were exchanged, the suspect was killed, and a deputy was wounded, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputy Joshua Hankins from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office was shot multiple times by the suspect. He was taken to Trinity Health hospital and is in stable condition, according to the MSCO.
