Louisville Officer Wounded in Active Shooter Attack Walking with Harness
The department said, “His determination and fighting spirit are evident as he confronts his challenges head-on and still isn’t backing down.”
Louisville Metro Police Officer Nickolas Wilt was sworn in just days before he was shot and grievously wounded responding to an active shooter attack.

The Louisville Metro Police Department is reporting that rookie Officer Nickolas Wilt who was shot in the head during a downtown active shooter attack is making “remarkable progress.”
“He is now able to respond more consistently to yes/no questions, indicating improved cognitive function. Additionally, he has started walking again with a harness and is working on regaining strength in his legs. Although his speech remains limited to 1 to 2 words at a time and is not yet consistent, he is making daily strides in this area as well, LMPD said on Facebook. The LMPD is also reporting that Wilt can brush his teeth with “minimal assistance.”

Wilt was one of the first two officers who responded to the shooting at Old National Bank on the morning of April 10. He was shot working his fourth shift on the LMPD. His training officer Cory C.J. Galloway killed the gunman, ending the attack that killed four people, not including the shooter.
