Officer Brian Huff is the first Detroit officer in six years killed in the line of duty with the department, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Huff was shot earlier this morning as he approached a yellow brick dwelling in the East Side neighborhood.
The last Detroit Police officers killed in the line of duty were Jennifer Fettig, 26, and Matthew Bowens, 21, killed during a traffic stop on Feb. 16, 2004. Eric L. Marshall is serving a life sentence for ambushing the two officers.
