The 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that carried an explosive arsenal of gasoline, firecrackers, propane tanks and analog alarm clocks was sold in a cash transaction with no paperwork, the New York Times reports.
Authorities interviewed the owner of the vehicle, who said the1993 Nissan Pathfinder was sold two weeks ago via Craigslist for $1,800. The sale was completed in the parking lot at a Connecticut shopping mall.
The seller couldn't remember the name of the purchaser, and told authorities he was either Middle Eastern or Hispanic.
Authorities found the Pathfinder's registered owner using the vehicle identification number stamped on the axle and engine block. The dashboard VIN was missing.
The Pathfinder had a Connecticut license plate that was matched with a plate at Kramer's Used Auto Parts in Stratford, Conn. The companion plate was not attached to its registered vehicle.
Kramer's owner Wayne LeBlanc said the plate was stolen. FBI agents had arrived at the junkyard on Sunday to question LeBlanc. The vehicle was transported to Quantico, Va., on Monday.
