The 17-year-old Mexican national who confessed to the execution-style murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Robert Rosas has received a 40-year sentence for the crime.
Christian Daniel Castro-Alvarez, 17, ambushed Rosas east of San Diego in July. Rosas was shot several times in the head after putting up a fierce struggle.
Castro-Alvarez and two other suspects crossed the border from Mexico on the night of July 23 intending to rob an agent. They encountered Rosas just north of the border fence near the rural town of Campo. They lured him out of his vehicle by leaving footprints in the road and making noises, the Los Angeles Times reports.
