ID for Illegals Passes L.A. Council Committee
A plan to provide full-fledged city identification cards to illegal immigrants was easily approved Tuesday by a Los Angeles City Council committee who agreed to hire a third-party vendor to produce the cards.

A plan to provide full-fledged city identification cards to illegal immigrants was easily approved Tuesday by a Los Angeles City Council committee who agreed to hire a third-party vendor to produce the cards.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa began pushing the plan, which initially started as an initiative to provide library cards to city residents. The Arts, Parks, Health and Aging Committee voted unanimously to ask the City Council to hire a vendor.
The City Service Card would provide access to the library and other city services. It could also be activated as a rechargeable debit card.
Several other cities including San Francisco and Oakland currently offer identification cards to anyone who can show residency in the city.
Critics say Los Angeles is making it easier for illegal immigrants to live in the city, reports the Los Angeles Times.
