Two undercover LAPD detectives were wounded in an ambush Tuesday morning, after a gunman opened fire on them as they waited to enter the Wilshire Division station.
The ambush "was a blatant attempt to assassinate two of the people who protect this community," LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told the Los Angeles Times.
The officers suffered only minor injuries in the 4:30 a.m. attack and returned fire. One detective suffered a minor head injury either from a bullet or shattered glass and the other detective suffered a minor injury to his hand.
The suspects fled the scene, as the LAPD cordoned off the Mid-City area and launched a manhunt.
