Thousands of officers and other well-wishers paid their respects at a Wednesday memorial service to a fallen Indianapolis Metro Police officer who was shot during a hostage situation.
Officer Rod Bradway was "not only an outstanding officer but a tremendous father," Public Safety Director Troy Riggs said at Crown Hill Cemetery before a public visitation. The formal memorial service was Thursday, reports the Indianapolis Star.
On Wednesday, city leaders presented the department's highest aware, the Medal of Honor, to Officer Bradway's widow, Jamie, and his two children.
Officer Bradway was killed while attempting to rescue a woman and young child from a man holding them hostage on Sept. 20.
