A sex offender attempting to flee from a Florida Highway Patrol trooper remains in critical condition after a fiery head-on collision following a traffic stop.
The trooper pulled over James Maddux in Orange County after suspecting him of drunk driving on Wednesday. Maddux then gave the trooper a bogus identification. When the trooper asked Maddux to get out of the car, he took off.
Maddux headed south on Orange Blossom Trail as a trooper pursued him, weaving through traffic and blowing a red light as seen on dash-cam video. Maddux's Prius; crossed a median; crashed head-on into another vehicle; and burst into flames.
An 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle was hospitalized in serious condition, reports WFTV.
